ASU West (Darton)

***As of 12/31/17 the Lopez trail is fully clear***

***As of 2/12/17 Only the main trail is cleaned up from the storm. The roads are clear and the gravel track is clear. The Lopez trail is 90% cleared out but has a few trees on the trail. The third trail is not clear with no current plans of being cleared as it isn't part of ASU nor Pheobe.***

Albany State West (Formally Darton)has one main trail that is has several cut throughs to shorten the loop. It is a trail used by the ASU and local cross country teams. It is wide open an clear with little to no technical parts. It is considered one of the fastest cross country courses in the state.

The trail has a nice little hill just off the main trail (you run by it) to do some sort hill work or to add into your loops. Although the loop itself is only 1.2 miles you have the benefit of adding some additional mileage through a few linked trails. We usually park at the tennis pavilion area and start the loop from the dirt/gravel parking lot (the green dot in the image below).

The above image is the main loop

This trail goes down along side of the road and around the soccer fields through the woods. It loops around back to the front where you take a left and follow the path along the tree line back to dirt parking lot.

You can link to several other trails. The two above are the most common trails we like to add.

The circular one (marked with pink dashes) is called the Lopez trail and is part of the hospice's property. The easiest way to get to this trail is taking the road down past the dorms and entering the trail on the left over the small wooden bridge. You can also link to the Lopez trail through a small connecting trail from the yellow dashed trail but it is easy to miss if you aren't with someone familiar with it. This is a more technical trail with more roots and single track most of the way. It is pretty well maintained by Phoebe. The loop is about a mile long.

The Yellow dash trail is a trail that a previous cross country coach put in for the team. It links up with main trail on both ends. You can either go straight at the bottom of the hill at the start of the main loop (0.25 Miles)and cross the street and link to the trail or on the other end by taking a hard right just before exiting the tail on the other end (about 0.8 into the loop) and follow the path until you have to cross the road. It will be straight ahead on the other side of the road. This trail is not well maintained  but is open and has very little technical areas. Part of this trail floods when it rains but it is easy to get around if needed. This trail is about a mile long.

The above trail is another option if you want a bigger loop.

The veteran Cross-country runners use to run this loop. To start you turn right when you exit the woods on the main loop at about a mile (0.90?). You cross over the road and head to the left of the drain ditch. You follow it around making a right at each corner. If you are adventurous, you can head straight over the railroad tracks and wander around for a while before heading back and finishing the loop. This is a wide open grass trail. It isn't always maintained and in the summer the grass can get high. Yikes Snakes!!! Toward the end of the loop you have to run in the grass along Westover for about 1/4 mile to get back on campus .

Road Loop

Or you can just stay on the roads. The one above is our 6 mile loop. It goes down past the dorms and around the hospice and to the back road. Once you get to plant operations you circular loop around the front portion of the school  and run back down the back road to the hospice and back to the pavilion. We also have a 2 mile loop, 1.5 mile loop, 1 mile loop, and 5k loop. If you need help figuring it our let us know and we will be glad to point you in the right direction.

ASU West also has a gravel track that is 1/2 mile long. It is located on the front end of campus near the softball field.
